We recognize that structural violence and racial trauma continue to affect the mental health of the black community, who already face greater barriers to accessing treatment. Any advocacy for mental health awareness must include advocacy for combating systemic racism. 

We have included some mental health resources below. While most of these resources have been developed to specifically help the black American community’s mental health, we urge you all to check them out and share them with those you feel who would benefit most from these resources. 

Black Girls Smile: An organization that seeks to empower and advocate on the behalf of black women. On their website, they provide links to many mental healthcare services, and have compiled a list of “state and city wide designated culturally sensitive mental health professionals” in the D.C. area. 

Black Emotional and Mental Health Virtual Therapist Network: A growing directory of licensed black therapists who provide telemental health services. Their website also has other helpful content, such as mental health graphics and mental health awareness videos.

Loveland Foundation: An organization that subsidizes therapy for black womxn.

Therapy for Black Men: A website that seeks to reduce the stigma against seeking mental healthcare through helping black mxn find therapists. 

Therapy for Black Girls: This website was developed to present mental health topics and support in a way that feels more accessible and relevant to black womxn.

National Queer and Trans Therapists of Color Network: Provides a directory of Queer and Trans therapists of color nationwide. Additionally, subsidized therapy appointments for queer and/or trans people of color.

Black Mental Health Matters Card: A simple, easy to access collection of many mental health resources directed towards supporting black individuals.  

Inclusive Therapists: A website that helps you identify and connect with therapists who share your cultural and regional background. The website features mental health professionals from 25 different states. 

Sunshine Behavioral Health: A comprehensive resource about mental health issues facing the black community.
